One of the major concerns in the oilfield industry is the contamination of hydration gels with bacteria which are naturally occurring in hydrocarbons & fracturing gel tanks. To aid in countering this contamination, biocides are used to control the sulfate reducing bacterias including slime forming bacteria and iron-oxidizing bacteria in addition to the bacterias which attack the polymer structure in the fracturing fluid.
