Iron oxides and sulfides if left untreated can precipitate and adversely interfere with eh fluid systems in acid based application in fracturing or matrix treatments. In production pipeline, iron oxides and sulfides can immensely reduce flow of hydrocarbons to surface production facilities.

Xien industries has developed a highly effect salt and organic acid based iron control product XI-54 to control iron generation from the breakdown of acid whilst pumped through subsurface tools. XI-54 is a reducing agent added to the treatment to reduce ferric to ferrous before the acid enters the formation.

This aids in lowering the pH level of the treatment fluid, offsetting the effect of precipitation of iron which will cause permeability damage to the formation and restrict hydrocarbon flow from fracture or wormholes to the well-bore.
